We've spent the last week in Australia - MaryJanice was keynote at a readers' conference here in Melbourne. One of the most satisfying moments of the trip came yesterday when we saw booksellers stocking ALL FOUR Jennifer Scales books at their tables - and selling out! This is in a country where the print rights are not sold yet...so these booksellers have to buy first from North American sources, swallow the shipping (which is substantial), and then still find a market for the higher-priced book. Well, as they say around here - no worries, mate! They love Jennifer Scales. We'll work with our agent to see if there's a publisher who'd like to tap into this market. We met some dedicated readers of the series - including a lovely young woman named Annabelle who thoughtfully (and with her mother's permission) took the day off from school to come see us at a local book signing. We tried to give her as much information about writing, the series, and anything else we could think of so she could write a lovely paper about it all and make up with her teachers. This is a good time and place for us to thank all of our wonderful hosts - and to encourage those who haven't been to Australia, to visit! Melbourne is a lovely city, and we spent a glorious day on Phillip Island experiencing everything from fine wine to wild penguins. We know there's a lot more to this country to see, and we can't wait to come back!
